special book:

Eye Care Foundation

02 May 2019

We are making a special book for this foundation, meant as inspiration and a gift for all donating members.

Worldwide 253 million people are blind or visually impaired. This number is expected to rise.

The Eye Care Foundation from the Netherlands has been working for 35 years now to prevent and cure unnecessary blindness and vision impairment in Asia and Africa. Blindness leads to serious economic and social problems in developing countries. Blind people are usually no longer able to work and are dependent on others. Thanks to the Eye Care Foundation, with the support of its donors, a better life is in sight for millions of eye patients and their family members.

Scores of eye hospitals, eye clinics and eye centres have been built.

Hundreds of eye doctors, thousands of basic healthcare workers and tens of thousands of volunteers have been trained. In the countries where the Eye Care Foundation is active, the local staff helps to build more sustainable eye care and infrastructure that everyone can afford.

Eighty per cent of blindness can be reversed with a simple cataract operation.

Many people with bad eyesight have been helped with good prescription glasses. It’s as simple as that.

This book is a testament to the experiences and developments of the past 35 years. Eye Care Foundation is carrying on with the good work. There is still much to be done.
